For the better part of my time living in New York City, I’ve photographed lost gloves. I’ve always been struck by their prevalence, sometimes finding multiples during a commute home. A few years in, I started to pick them up, amassing nearly 700 gloves at the expense of precious storage space in a cramped one bedroom apartment.
Having recently lost two of my own, I’ve become more selective with the ones I pick up. I know the frustration and disappointment of a retraced search, only to return home empty-handed. So if a loss looks fresh, I let it be.
Below are a few of my favorite images and finds from over the years.
