For the better part of my time living in New York City, I’ve photographed lost gloves. I’ve always been struck by their prevalence, sometimes coming upon multiple gloves during a commute home. Photographing soon expanded to an annual finders competition amongst friends, and somewhere along the way I started to pick them up, amassing nearly 700 gloves in the process.
Having recently lost two of my own gloves, I’ve grown to be more selective with the ones I pick up. I know how frustrating and disappointing it can be when you retrace your steps, only to return home empty-handed. So If a glove looks like a fresh loss, I let it be.
